The Rosie Show - A Glowing Review

Rosie O'Donnell is a huge talent who can pluck at your heartstrings one minute and make you laugh out loud the next. In an era of so many masks and pretenders, Rosie's authenticity resonates with people. This is something that Oprah Winfrey has learned well. Must be why they've created The Rosie Show.

The first change you'll spot from her previous show is that they've ditched the desk. A good call among many decisions made when designing the new show. A monologue from Rosie makes you smile and sets the tone as the show begins.

The key to Rosie's success is that she is unapologetic and fantastically herself. From her uniqueness the comedy springs strong and tickles your funny-bone. She interacts with the audience when they bring up the lights (ala Carol Burnett) to take questions. Rosie is quick on the comeback as she develops a rapport with the audience before bringing out her first guest.

During her Premier week she spotted an older gentleman in the audience, asleep. Being so quick at improv she has turned him into somewhat of a show mascot. She even allowed him to play "show's announcer" one day. No doubt Arthur will be getting calls from Hollywood agents asking him to narrate this or that. Or maybe to be a guest on Letterman. That's the beauty of Rosie's golden touch.

During another interaction with the audience, one woman asked if she'd join their local Chicago Bookclub. After discovering a liking for the same kinds of books, Rosie agreed to join their club. Who knows if she really will or not, but it's a endearing down-to-earth strategy.

Occasionally she'll answer a Tweet on the show. One Tweet was asking why she said "Gay" so much. Rosie said she didn't realize she was doing it. I say let Rosie be Rosie. If she wants to talk about Gay issues or anything else, she can because her adoring fans say she can.

I was especially pleased when she had Marine Corps Veteran Shamar Thomas on to talk about Occupy Wall Street and police brutality. This is one of the many reasons I love Rosie. She didn't have to do that. She could of kept it light. But that's not real and that's not Rosie. Besides, a show without substance and involvement in the world around it can become boring.

I think she looks fabulous. The people that are dressing her must be fans of the show What Not To Wear because they have selected wardrobe that enhances Rosie's nice legs. Rosie has allowed her staff to participate on her side of the camera quite a bit in only 10 shows so far. Because profanity was spoken twice during the Sharon & Kelli Osborne segment, her staff presented her with a swear jar. She explained this to the audience and immediately let a couple swear words slip with nothing in her pockets to put into the jar.

Sometimes when she's talking with the audience, TV shows come up in conversation. Any moment she may break into song. Like me, Rosie seems to have been raised by a Television set and absorbed all of recent Pop culture and memorized all of the music lyrics ever written, making it part of her own DNA. She's become fascinated with Dance Moms, Hillbilly Handfishin', and My Strange Addiction. It's a blast to watch her talk about the shows and why they interest her. Always something new to talk about with Rosie, and the World's the limit.

Each day the show is a little bit different including the short Game Show at the end. The winning game show contestant joins her to wave good bye and gets to read the last line off the Teleprompter: "Today's show's been great, but it's missing one thing....CONFETTI!" A LOT of confetti shoots out from everywhere as the audience goes wild.

I have made Rosie a part of my weeknight TV watching. Everyone needs someone to make them laugh at the end of a long day.
